The Need / The Vision
God placed in Mary and Robert Grindley’s hearts a burning desire to care for the orphans and needy children of Botswana. They watched firsthand the devastating effects of the HIV pandemic, resulting in thousands of children becoming orphaned. Botswana government has worked hard to help their orphans. Extended families have absorbed most of the orphans in past years, however, in many cases they become the victims of neglect, poverty, and physical or sexual abuse. Many orphans drop out of school due to the trauma of losing parents and the lack of care for their emotional well-being. In the past several years the HIV medical treatments have lowered the death rate yet there is an acute need for a caring and loving environment for many children. Large scale orphan care centers are deemed unacceptable as the government desires its nations children be raised in family environments.
Children of Promise Orphan Center is constructing individual homes that will care for 12 children in a Christ centered family environment with a set of parents/ guardians. Our vision is to build as many as twenty (20) such homes on the current land provided by the government in the village of Sefophe. In the future we will construct a Christian School and Vocational Training Center so children can leave equipped to face the challenges of adulthood.
Cogent farm (currently in early development stage) is our initiative to provide long-term sustainability for this project. However, right now we need your help to finish construction and open the first two homes at the Center. God has given us a word from Isaiah 58: 12 “ Those from among you shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, the Restorer of Streets to Dwell In”. (NKJV)
Being independent missionaries, we do not have the backing of a large missions organization or denominational backing for this vision. We would like you to consider helping us to be part of raising a generation who will reverse the tides of sorrow in this nation. Please consider helping through prayer and giving to provide these children with hope and a future, and help them to become Children of Promise!
